Last week the men and women basketball teams traveled down south to Birmingham, AL to compete in the 2017 SIAC tournament. The men opened up play against a strong Fort Valley State University team, whom they would take an eventual devastating 79-73 loss against to end their season.
The loss to Fort Valley will make it the third consecutive season in which the Breds have been unsuccessful in making it past the first round of tournament play.
Dorian Jordan, junior guard, led the team with 27 points attempting to close the lead but was unsuccessful due to costly turnovers late in the game. After the loss the Thorobreds hope to regroup and be more successful next season.
The women also came up short in an agonizing 61-59 loss against the Lady Golden Rams of Albany State University. This is the Thorobrettes first loss in opening round tournament play since 2014.
Aliyah Gipson led the Thorobrettes to an early first half lead and eventually finishing with a game high 23 points. Similar to the men’s team, the women ended the game with 20 total turnovers which ultimately cost them the game.
